The Passage by Justin Cronin Makes Its Landing...

Just Released Today!

June 8th, 2010

The Most Anticipated Book of the summer is finally here! The "It" book! Have you picked up your copy?! You have heard of The Passage by Justin Cronin, right?! If not, here's the blurb from the publisher...

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.

There has been so much buzz about this book for the past 6 months. It was the book with the biggest buzz at BookExpo this year. What a great campaign by Random House & Ballantine Books to get the word out... and now let's open the pages and see just how good it is...

I missed out on getting a copy at BEA this year, but through the beauty of technology The Passage arrived on my Kindle early this morning. I've already dived in to sample it (how could I resist!) even though I'm in the middle of another book... Has anyone read The Passage yet?! What did YOU think?! I'll let you know what I think as soon as I turn that last page...

*P.S. This book is the first book in a TRILOGY!

I thought the book wasn't bad but I was definitely a victim of too much hype and felt let down when I was done. I had really high expectations going in. My review will be posting next week. I hope you enjoy the book though!

Hi Debbie,
I was afraid that all the hype would make the book a little bit of a let down... I look forward to reading your review!

I must live under a rock, as I haven't heard of this book yet. I'm anxious to see what you think!

Looking forward to this one as well. I did not realize a trilogy was planned.

Hi Diane,
Yes, I was a bit surprised myself. I don't think there was much talk if any about a trilogy from anywhere when I first heard the buzz about it, but if it is as good as it is suppose to be( and like Debbie from Debbie's World of Books, says the hype may have raised her expectations too high) 2 more books will be a treat. Of course if I learned anything from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo "trilogy", I should wait until all 3 "Passage" books are out so I can read them ALL at once! :-)

I've been trying to decide if I should buy this one for my first book of summer vacation. I just can't decide.
