Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel gets released in Paperback! And Here's Your Chance to Win a Copy!

Wolf Hall Hits the Shelves in Paperback!

And The Winner is... Heather (hendy)! Congrats to Heather! And Thank you to EVERYONE who joined in on the fun!

Historical fiction fans are in for a treat - not only has Hilary Mantel's book Wolf Hall been released in paperback August 1st, but courtesy of Picador Publishers, one lucky Chick with Books reader from the US will win a copy!

Last year Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel won the coveted Man Booker Prize. What exactly is The Man Booker Prize? The prize aims to reward the best novel of the year. Books eligible for the Man Booker prize must be written in English, but not by an author from the USA. Any citizen from the Commonwealth or The Republic of Ireland is eligible. The novel must be an original work in English (not a translation), full length and must not be self-published. And so, after much debate & reading, Wolf Hall came out the winner, and here's the synopsis...

England in the 1520s is a heartbeat from disaster. If the king dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years and marry Anne Boleyn. The pope and most of Europe opposes him. Into this impasse steps Thomas Cromwell: a wholly original man, a charmer and a bully, both idealist and opportunist, astute in reading people, and implacable in his ambition. But Henry is volatile: one day tender, one day murderous. Cromwell helps him break the opposition, but what will be the price of his triumph?

Well researched and an interesting insight into how Thomas Cromwell made his way into Henry VIII's court. Mantel incorporates fascinating details of English life and creates a vivid picture of both court life and life as an ordinary citizen.
