Giveaway: Breaking The Bank by Yona Zeldis McDonough! Blog Tour & Review Too!

What Would You Do If an ATM machine spit out thousands of dollars for FREE?!

Congratulations to Jennifer & Jaime! They have won copies of Breaking the Bank! Thanks to everyone who joined in on the fun! There were alot of creative answers to what you would do if the ATM was spitting out $$! But EVERYone would have given the money back!

Mia Saul is having a bad "life"... she just lost her job... the love of her life, her soul-mate, her husband, left her for a manicurist... she's had to move into a run-down apartment with a drug dealer for a neighbor... she's trying to raise her 10 year old daughter Eden alone... and she's practically broke all the time...

She forgets the groceries she just bought with the last of her cash when she picks Eden up from afterschool. So in order to feed her daughter she makes a trip to the ATM machine. She calculates that she has just enough money for rent and takes whatever is left out. One Hundred dollars... but wait... the machine spit out more than that... the machine gave her $200! The receipt said $100 though...

When she finds the ATM machine spitting out hundreds and then thousands of dollars every time she makes a withdrawal, her troubles seem to be behind her... until they catch up with her!

I enjoyed Breaking The Bank so much! The characters are written so well and the story takes some great turns that really made you keep turning those pages! Yona Zeldis McDonough really made me feel Mia's angst as she tried to make ends meet, deal with her daughter's growing need for her father and growing anxieties about her family & friends. The money was a blessing for a little while, but then add police, a night in jail, a mother, brother and sis-in-law that think you're an unfit mother, and the money doesn't seem to be the answer you were looking for... You'll love reading the predicaments Mia gets herself into! They seem to get worse and worse, but you'll be there cheering her on! I know I was! There are some great characters you'll meet when you open up the pages of Breaking The Bank, and it would make a great book club read too! What would you do if you found an ATM machine that seemed to give free money? And there's so much to discuss about her family, the men in her life and the way she's raising Eden! Here's the Reading Group Guide with some great discussion questions! Would you like to read an excerpt? Here's The First Chapter!

A Big Thank You! for Sarah from Pocket Books for sending along the Break The Bank for me to review! This was the first book I read by Yona Zeldis McDonough, but it's not her first book! Learn more about her at her Website!

Thanks for sharing this book! I hadn't heard of it before. Adding it to my wishlist :)

Sounds like an interesting scenario - and initially one I would love: My ATM handing out thousands when Im only asking for 100s. But I can easily see how this would only be a short-term solution, and I am not even sure I would enjoy it, should it happen to me. I would be fairly sure I would be found out, and if not, I would probably have a bad conscience forever....

Oh man, I wish this would happen to me in real life haha. Although knowing me, I'd feel too guilty and wouldn't take anything. :(

Thanks for the review! I hadn't heard of this book before although I'm now adding it to my list.

Sounds like a great scenario, I can understand when your feeling desperate you would keep the money. I love the idea but I think the guilt would drive me nuts but I would be tempted, perhaps if I gave into temptation I would use the money to leave the country. Sounds like a great book, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

If I got too much money from an ATM I would return it 1) cause it would be the right thing to do and 2) cause I figure they would find out and come after the money!

I'm glad you liked this one. I wasn't as wild about it but I think it just wasn't my kind of book.

This book sounds like a good read. Add my name to the draw please.

+1 I'd like to say 'Take the money & run!', but I believe I would return the money & notify the bank the error.

And, I would reluctantly give the money back. Mama always taught me to give extra money back when given to me in error. I have a guilty conscience, so I totally couldn't keep it!

Breaking the Bank looks like a fun read! I'd love to win. I am a follower. If the ATM gave me extra cash - I'd have to turn it in to the bank - the guilt would not be worth it!

+1 I would jump up and down squealing. Then I would take it to the bank. As much as I would like to keep it, I know I wouldn't be happy so might as well give it back.

If the ATM spit out that money, I'd have to return it. I'm sure the bank records would show it anyway. Honesty, that's the name of the game.

And for a bonus entry: I would report the malfunctioning ATM to the bank. I'd like to tell you it's because I'm an honest person, but it's actually because I know the camera would be recording me scooping up the money.

Of course, I want to believe that I would turn in the money - and I probably would.
But if I didn't? A new suit for my husband, the property taxes paid for the year, a vet's check for our animals, extra mortgage payments, and some new leather pumps for me. :-)
