The Kindle Chronicles....

Do you own a Kindle? I know there are a few of you out there lifting your eyes off your Kindle screen for just a moment! As you probably know I own a Kindle.... But I still do LOVE the feel of a 'real' book in my hand and would never give that up. That said, it's always nice to get a free book (or practically free)... and I thought I would highlight some great "contemporary" Kindle book deals available right now. This is also a great opportunity to try out some new authors! These choices happen to be from Amazon.com....

Paranoia by best selling author Joseph Finder is a corporate thriller. Adam Cassidy works as a low level employee in a high-tech corporation & hates his job. He does a little "high-tech" favor for a friend and finds himself in a bit of "high-tech" trouble... Free until Sept. 18th!

The Grove by new author John Rector is a psychological suspense novel he wrote and distributed on Kindle... " the last time farmer Dexter McCray went off his medication, someone wound up dead. So, after waking from an alcoholic blackout to discover his tractor stuck in a ditch and the body of a teenage girl in the cottonwood grove bordering his cornfield, things look worryingly familiar..." available for .99! **This month John signed a deal to publish his next book The Cold Kiss! If you like The Grove, look for The Cold kiss coming out in hardback sometime in 2010!

Dark Fever by Time-travel-romance author Karen Marie Moning turns from her usual to a darker gothic suspense. "MacKayla "Mac" Lane is a small-town southern girl living a life of suntans and shopping. All that changes when her sister dies in Ireland and a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone raises disturbing questions about the nature of her sister's death..." Free until Oct. 1st!

Loving a Lost Lord by historical romance writer Mary Jo Putney is the first of a dazzling series that introduces the Lost Lords- maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match-but perfection doesn't come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton. . .

Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor of the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he's delighted to hear that the golden-haired vision tending his wounds is his wife. Mariah's name and face may not be familiar, but her touch, her warmth, feel deliciously right. . . even though it shouldn't! Priced at $4.76 now! (was free...)

For Love of Mother Not by Sci-Fi author Alan Dean Foster, who is well known for his novels of movies like Alien and The Transformers as well as a bunch of great scienc fiction. This book is the start of the story of Pip & Flinx which after 35 yrs. and 14 novels ended this year. The series centers on the companionship of a mini dragon and a young street boy who travel thru many adventures in the fictional land called Moth. A fun series even for non sci-fi lovers!... Free for now!

A little bit of everything here: thriller, suspense, historical romance, romantic suspense, and sci-fi... Clicking on the book titles will bring you to the kindle book download on Amazon!
Keep your eyes out for "Kindle Ready!" tags at the bottom of all my review and giveaway posts... so all my Kindle readers don't feel left out! I'm also going to review some great classics available on Kindle, and thought I'd make the Kindle Chronicles a regular feature on my blog. Remember, most everything here is available in paper too!

Happy reading (and downloading....),
Suzanne

Hey Suzy!
Though these books probably aren't my style I do appreciate the "Kindle Support" here on Chickwith books. Thanks!

ps Just bought Douglas Adams Classic "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" last night on Kindle. Just as funny as in print!

How I'd love to own a kindle! I think the newest version is the Kindle DX and I absolutely lust for one. The only thing though is that I live in Canada and wouldn't be able to download/buy directly from Amazon with the Kindle; I think I would have to download from the computer, which isn't a biggy, but gosh, a kindle...

It's true that the look and feel of an actual book just can't be beat. Not only that, but if I can get a pretty good deal on a hardcover and that I'm quite certain the book in question is a keeper, I'd opt for that instead of a paperback.

Thank you for stopping by my blog the other day. I appreciate it. =) As for the picture that says update on it, I think I used a picture editing feature on photobucket.

Happy reading! =)

Hi Linda Ellen!
My hubby is lusting after the DX! He is also addicted to the Kindle... which is nice since now he's a big reader! And yes, when it's a "keeper" you just have to have it in 'paper'!

It's so funny about the Kindle... my friend Yvette from South Africa has an even worse problem with getting Kindle books. That's one of the best thing about the Kindle - not having to hook it up to the computer! I hope Amazon fixes this 'problem' for EVERYone that does not live in the USA!

Love your blog! And thanks for the info about adding that cute little star to the picture!

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm really debating about buying a Kindle2. What would you say is the biggest benefit to having a Kindle? I just can't decide if I need this new toy?

PaulGuy said...

Dear Anonymous,
I have a Kindle 2 and absolutely love it. I'm a Kindleholic who actually prefers to read on Kindle than paper. In fact, much to my wife's chagrin, I've purchased books on Kindle once I've started reading her paper version and decided I liked it. I can hold a library of books on it. Currently I have around 20 books, on the device itself and more archived on Mr. Bezos' servers. As someone who likes to read in bed it's easier to hold a Kindle with one hand than a book. I never loose my place as the Kindle always remembers my last page read. In the states at least, the whispernet delivery right to your Kindle over the 3G network is like magic. Buy a new book while your on the train going to work! Get newspapers, magazines, blogs all delivered right to your Kindle. Get sample first chapters FREE delivered to your Kindle to see if you might like the book. Get FREE classic offerings from Amazon, Feedbook, and other sources. And no matter how many books I add to it, it never gets too heavy for me to carry. When I'm done reading a book I don't have to find a place to store it. (Though I can't give it to a friend to read either.) I just can't say enough about it. I think back to my high school days with cassette players and boxes of tapes, and albums all over the place then compare that experience to having all my CD's, hundreds of them on my little iPod. Well that's what a Kindle is to a reader. It's not for everyone but I'm nuts about it.

Hi Anonymous! Wow, I think Paul said it all! For myself, I think the biggest benefit to the Kindle is being able to have your whole library (or at least 1500 books) stored on this one device. It's so much easier to bring your Kindle on the train, on vacation etc. I love getting newspapers on my Kindle too! So much nicer reading the NYT book review etc. on the Kindle. I love being able to get the first chapter of a book to be able to get a 'feel' for the book- and be able to get that in the comfort of my own home. Finally I like getting all the classics I want free or almost free! Let me know what you finally decide!

I too love my kindle for all the reasons both Paul and Suzy stated. There other huge pluses for me. The first is the ability to lookup a word simply by moving the cursor in front of it. So often reading books, I'm not in position to get to a dictionary and I never remember to go back to the word. Now, I get it instantly. The other huge plus for me is the ability to change the font size. When I commute, often, the lighting on the older buses is very poor. There have been days I just couldn't read the book, my old tired eyes just couldn't see the words. Now, with Kindle, all I do increase the font and I'm reading without missing a beat.

Thanks for your input Beth! Hey and don't forget to check out the great deals on Kindle books! BTW, Knight of Desire (my giveaway that starts today) is only $1.99 at the Kindle store now... if you don't win a 'paper' copy!:D

Hi Suzanne... This is a great blog. I never knew it existed, but now that I do, I have it bookmarked.

Also, thank you for mentioning The Grove and helping me get the word out. I need all the help I can get, and this post is definitely appreciated.

Take care,

John

PaulGuy said...

Damn John, I paid $200 for that book. When did the price drop?

:-)

Suzanne Yester said...

Hi John, Thanks for stopping by! The Grove sounds like a great story! It's downloaded and ready to go! I will do an "official" review soon. If you email me with a place to the review link, I'll let you know when it's up...

And thanks for the nice compliment to my blog! I'm Starting to add a bit more testosterone to the blog and what better way than with your work!

Take care,
Suzanne

Suzanne, this is great Kindle info. I've been using the name "The Kindle Chronicles" for about a year now, for my weekly audio podcast. The show notes page is http://TheKindleChronicles.com . I certainly don't own the name, but to avoid possible confusion, if you're not overly committed to it, maybe you could do your Kindle-related columns under a slightly different title?
Len

PaulGuy said...

Perhaps you could call it "Kindle Korner (formerly The Kindle Cronicles)". Perhaps Len should interview you on one of his podcasts as one of the few book blogs that tries to be Kindle Friendly. How 'bout it Len?

Suzanne Yester said...

Hi Len,
I had no idea The Kindle Chronicles existed! Thanks for letting us know here in my little corner of Chicks with Books devoted to all things Kindle about your podcast! I will check it out! And in the meantime, I see PaulGuy above has suggested Kindle Korner and that looks like a great idea for a name for my Kindle posts... we don't need confusion! And if you happen to have any "paper" people visiting you - please send them here! Thanks for stopping by and sharing! And Please come back and join in on the Kindle chatter!

Suzanne

Good suggestion PaulGuy! I like the new name, it has a warmer, homier feel to it.
