"Lisandra came into the room, her eyes red, puffy with tears. She walked unsteadily, and all she said was, 'He doesn’t love me anymore.' She said it over and over, relentlessly, as if her brain had stopped working, as if her mouth could not utter anything else—'He doesn’t love me anymore.'"
... The Case of Lisandra P. by Helene Gremillon
Don't you want to know who doesn't love Lisandra anymore!? Would you keep reading or put it down?

I would read on if I was in the mood for a romance? And out of curiousity!
Yes, I would be curious and read on too. Although you're right, the beginning does sound like a romance, but the book is suppose to be a psychological thriller!?! These "first lines" may entice the romance readers and not have the thriller reader pay any attention.
Good observation!
Very interesting. I am loving that pretty cover too.
I love the cover too, Jillian!
